I decided that it was about time to start writing about the place that I live in and all the wonderful people I meet along the way. There is much to say about the beauty of Belize and the multitude of cultures. The community I live in is called Orchid Bay, located on Lowry's Bight in Northern Belize.
There is much to say about the beauty of this place in which I live, but today I want to talk about a different kind of beauty. The beauty I am talking about is in the people that find their way to Orchid Bay, like two young gentlemen by the names of Thomas Strawn and Daniel Heintz from Seattle Washington. I felt compelled and inspired to write their story for its not everyday you meet individuals that are trying to make a difference in this world. Thomas and Daniel decided to help a friend by the name of SaraJoy Pond who is the CEO of Catalyze Labs. www.catalyzelabs.org. They are dedicated to making a difference in peoples lives and finding ways to do it. They are trying to bring awareness to various charities, for example helping with funding to drill wells in countries that are in need of good clean water. Thomas and Daniel decided to personally take on this challenge and travel to 80 countries all over the world linking families of different cultures whilst sharing aspects of their day to day lives. As they said "to put a face on the individuals they meet and tell their stories." Daniel, a wonderful and extremely talented photographer and Thomas, an equally talented writer are a great team to document and share all the experiences of the people they meet on this two year adventure. It is their hopes that they can use this information to produce an educational app for children or possibly write a book for teachers to use in the classrooms.
Thomas shared with me that his dream is "to isolate myself in the different cultures, to be compassionate, curious, keep an open heart, crystallize character and to develop who I am as a person ultimately changing my heart and who I am." Daniel added "I love to travel and to be able to share my experiences and to teach others that there is good in the world."
They have traveled so far to Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala and my home country Belize. Next stop is Mexico where they look forward to celebrating 'Day Of The Dead' honoring family members who have passed. They plan on traveling to South America, Europe, Middle East, and Africa later in their journey.
